After graduating from Harvard with honors in Economics, I learned computer programming through IBM and moved to the Bay Area. I began my career in the computer industry’s infancy, first as a COBOL programmer and mainframe systems analyst, then as a technology stock analyst for American Express, covering Silicon Valley since its infancy. After earning my Chartered Financial Analyst designation, I rose through the ranks to become Vice President: Investment Planning & Control. I then spent five years at Capital Research/American Funds as an analyst and head of their Statistics Department. After IBM introduced their personal computer, I left to found the California Technology Stock Letter.
For the last 35+ years, I've been an independent technology investment adviser, bringing professional research to individual investors. I've held a Series 7, worked as a brokerage firm analyst, been a Registered Investment Adviser and Director of Research, done venture capital investing, and been CEO of two software companies.
Today I write New World Investor, sharing my unique analysis of emerging MegaShifts (new technology trends and breakthroughs) that are still under the radar, and selecting exceptionally high-performing stocks best positioned to reap staggering rewards.
I hold a US patent on a stock value calculator and, for fun, I set a Class 1/E electric car speed record on the Bonneville Salt Flats that stood for eight years. I narrowly missed setting the electric hydroplane record.
Along the way, I've written three books on smart investing, including the business bestseller Every Investor’s Guide to High-Tech Stocks and Mutual Funds, Investing in High Tech, and Survive The Great Inflation. This online book project is #4. It's free to join and I've set the rate for paid subscribers to comment, talk with other subscribers, or ask questions, to the absolute minimum Substack will allow. Expect one or two new posts every week. Join us!
